As part of the series “The Age of the Future”, we present the second podcast “Facilities that welcome the elderly” in which Roberto Tribuno, taking up the concept of Demographic Winter, analyzes the consequences this has on the Italian population, and illustrates the types of facilities dedicated to the elderly and the services offered.

Among the consequences, he cites the increase in life expectancy, which will result in an increase in chronic diseases that will have to be taken care of by the healthcare system. There will be an increasing number of semi- or non-self-sufficient people with significant care needs, inappropriate emergency room appeals, as well as insufficient home care compared to the requests.

Hence the need to diversify facilities based on the care needs of the elderly; facilities that are welcoming and comfortable, capable of offering personalized care while listening to people’s needs. Not only Nursing Home, and Rehabilitation Clinics, but also Senior Housing. The latter are dedicated to a user base of self-sufficient elderly people who mainly require safety and sociality.
